A Clinical Study on the Antihypertensive Effect of Enalapril

Abstract
Enalapril, a new angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, was administered in 11 hypertensive patients for 4 weeks in order to evaluate the antihypertensive effect and side effects. The doses were from 10mg to 20mg once a day.
The results were as follows:
1. Before medication and after 2 and 4 weeks of medication, the systolic and diastolic pressure on sitting position were 175.4¡¾5.1/110¡¾2.9, 155.0¡¾5.1/100¡¾2.1, 150.5¡¾6.5/ 95.0¡¾4.6 mmHg and on supine position 168.7¡¾5.8/100.0¡¾2.1, 155.0¡¾5.1/100.)¡¾2.1, 154.0¡¾6.5/95.0¡¾4.4 mmHg.
After 4 weeks of medication, marked or moderate degree of antihypertensive effect was observed in 72.6% of all cases(P<0.05).
2. There was no significant change in pulse rate before and after medication.
3. There were no significant changes in the laboratory findings such as serum BUN, creatinine, cholesterol, GOT, GPT, leucocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and urine protein
before and after treatment. 4. The side effects of enalapril were not observed.
